Fort Adams is a designated U.S National Register of Historic places and U.S National Historic Landmark District , so project work was required to meet strict preservation criteria. James Meinecke worked with the client to document and re-build the Redoubt Jail building using historic photographs as a basis of design.

James also collaborated with the client to document the existing infill of the exterior envelope and windows on the fort. Additionally, he designed bunk beds and reading tables within the old fort for overnight accommodations.
